World No Tobacco Day 2025: Unmasking Industry Tricks

World No Tobacco Day 2025
May 31 marks World No Tobacco Day, and in 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) is going all out with a bold new theme: “Unmasking the Appeal”. The campaign aims to uncover how tobacco and nicotine companies make harmful products seem desirable, especially to young people.
WHO accuses these industries of using flavours, colourful packaging, influencer marketing, and even e-cigarettes to bypass regulations and attract youth. The agency is calling on governments to ban flavoured nicotine products and enforce stricter advertising rules.
According to WHO statistics, over 38 million youth globally use some form of tobacco or nicotine. The 2025 campaign seeks to break this trend by increasing public awareness, enacting stronger laws, and educating families.
Community events, classroom activities, and social media campaigns are being held worldwide. Influencers, health professionals, and even ex-smokers have joined the movement by sharing their stories online.
WHO is also pushing for more graphic warning labels and restrictions on social media advertising. The campaign emphasizes that the fight against tobacco is far from over, and complacency could cost millions of lives.
